AC Milan Draws 2-2 With Sassuolo As Bartesaghi's Goals Are Cancelled Out By Lauriente

In a thrilling match, AC Milan drew 2-2 with Sassuolo. Davide Bartesaghi scored twice for Milan, but Armand Lauriente's late equaliser secured a point for the visitors.

AC Milan missed the opportunity to lead Serie A by three points after a 2-2 draw with Sassuolo. Davide Bartesaghi scored twice for Milan, but Armand Lauriente's late goal ensured both teams shared the points at San Siro. Sassuolo initially took the lead in the 13th minute when Ismael Kone finished Andrea Pinamonti's pass past Mike Maignan.

Milan equalised in the 34th minute as Bartesaghi converted Ruben Loftus-Cheek's cross at the far post. The left-back then put Milan ahead early in the second half, beating Arijanet Muric at his near post. However, Milan's attempts to extend their lead were thwarted by offside calls against Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot.

Milan and Sassuolo Share Points in Serie A Clash

Sassuolo capitalised on these reprieves with Lauriente finishing a slick one-touch move to level the score. He later hit the post as Sassuolo sought a winner. Despite holding out for a draw, Milan risk losing their top spot if Napoli or Inter secure victories later that day.

Bartesaghi’s goals marked his first in senior football, making him the youngest Italian defender to score for Milan in Serie A since Paolo Maldini in 1988. At 19 years and 350 days, he achieved this milestone, following Ibrahima Mbaye who netted a brace at a younger age in March 2014.

Match Statistics and Analysis

Despite being hindered by offside decisions, Milan managed to hold Sassuolo to a draw. Sassuolo limited Milan to an expected goals (xG) of 1.24 while creating chances worth an xG of 1.07 themselves. This suggests that Sassuolo deserved their share of the points from this encounter.

Milan’s inability to secure all three points leaves them vulnerable at the top of Serie A standings. If Napoli or Inter win their respective matches later on Sunday, they could overtake Milan at the summit of the league table.
