AC Milan Win 3-0 At Bologna To Tighten Serie A Lead

AC Milan secured a 3-0 victory at Bologna, keeping the pressure on Serie A leaders Inter. Loftus-Cheek, Nkunku and Rabiot struck as Milan dominated on the road. The win extends Milan's unbeaten away run to 12 matches, highlighting effective midfield contribution and clinical finishing.

AC Milan stayed firmly in the Serie A title race with a controlled 3-0 victory over Bologna, cutting the gap to leaders Inter back to five points as precise finishing, strong defending and another assured away display maintained Milan’s long unbeaten league run on the road.

The scoreline did not fully reflect Bologna’s possession, yet Milan’s efficiency proved decisive at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, where Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christopher Nkunku and Adrien Rabiot all scored, while Mike Maignan marked a new contract with one key save in an otherwise composed outing.

This result extended Milan’s unbeaten sequence in Serie A away matches this season to 12 games, with seven wins and five draws, matching a streak last achieved in 2003-04, when Milan opened the campaign with nine away victories and three draws across their first 12 trips.

Bologna actually produced more attempts and kept more of the ball, but Milan created clearer chances and finished with superior attacking numbers, generating a much higher expected goals figure despite fewer shots and showing clinical edge in both open play and from the penalty spot.

Nkunku’s influence grew after a lively start, and Milan’s midfielders again carried significant attacking responsibility, a theme that gained importance after Monday, when Jean-Philippe Mateta’s proposed move from Crystal Palace collapsed, leaving the Rossoneri to seek more goals from deeper positions.

Rabiot’s overall contribution highlighted that need, with the midfielder now on four goals and four assists in Serie A this season, making Rabiot one of only two players in that position to reach at least four goals and four assists, alongside Nico Paz with eight goals and six assists.

The visitors’ opener came after Bologna had started brighter, with Nkunku twice denied by close-range headers in the 20th minute by Federico Ravaglia, before Milan recycled the move, Rabiot cut the ball back and Loftus-Cheek calmly guided a first-time finish into an unguarded net.

Despite that setback, Bologna continued to dominate possession and push forward, yet Milan struck again 19 minutes later when Ravaglia brought down Nkunku in the area, and the French forward took responsibility, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with a composed penalty into the bottom-right corner.

Milan’s third arrived just after the interval and owed much to a defensive lapse, as Juan Miranda’s throw-in bypassed every Bologna player, allowing Rabiot to surge through, nod the ball into stride and drive a low shot under Ravaglia, who had advanced aggressively off the line.

Bologna responded with more territory and pressure during the closing stages, though Maignan’s workload remained light, with the goalkeeper’s standout involvement a sharp low stop to deny Jens Odgaard, while substitute Niclas Fullkrug squandered a late chance when Ravaglia blocked a difficult angled header at the other end.

Milan’s performance combined resilience without the ball and ruthless finishing in attack, reinforcing an away record that keeps Inter within reach, while the ongoing scoring output from Rabiot, Nkunku and Loftus-Cheek underlined how Milan’s midfield unit continues to carry crucial responsibility in the absence of new attacking reinforcements.
