AC Milan Recovers To Draw 2-2 Against Fiorentina In Serie A Clash

AC Milan managed to secure a 2-2 draw against Fiorentina in Serie A, despite conceding two early goals. This result leaves Milan's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in jeopardy. The match began poorly for Milan when Malick Thiaw accidentally scored an own goal, giving Fiorentina an early lead. Albert Gudmundsson's skillful dribble set up the opportunity that led to Thiaw's error.

Moise Kean quickly doubled Fiorentina's advantage with a close-range shot, thanks to a precise pass from Dodo. Kean's goal brought his season tally to 17, placing him just behind Atalanta's Mateo Retegui in the scoring charts. Despite this setback, Milan responded through Tammy Abraham, who scored after a clever exchange with Christian Pulisic.

Milan showed improvement in the second half as they sought to level the score. Fiorentina goalkeeper David de Gea made crucial saves against Tijjani Reijnders and Pulisic. Yet, he couldn't stop Luka Jovic from scoring after 64 minutes. Jovic capitalised on Fikayo Tomori's incisive pass to score his second goal in as many games.

Dodo appeared to have secured a late victory for Fiorentina with a volley from Nicolo Fagioli's cross. However, his effort was ruled out for offside. This draw marked the first time since August 2023 that Fiorentina failed to win after leading by two goals in Serie A.

Milan's Struggles Continue

Milan has now won only twice in their last seven league matches, further diminishing their top-four aspirations. They sit ninth in the table with 48 points, trailing eighth-placed Fiorentina by four points and fourth-placed Bologna by eight points. Bologna will face Napoli on Monday.

This season marks only the third time in ten years that Milan has accumulated fewer than 50 points after 31 games. Previously, they finished seventh and sixth during similar campaigns in 2015-16 and 2019-20 respectively.

The match also marked significant milestones for several players. De Gea played his 500th game across Europe's top five leagues but couldn't celebrate it with a win. Meanwhile, Kean made his 200th appearance at this level and has now scored against Milan for three different Serie A teams.
