AFC Asian Cup 2024: Son Heung-min and three other stars that could make South Korea as tournament winners

In a spirited bid to break a 64-year title drought at the upcoming AFC Asian Cup, South Korea has unveiled a formidable squad teeming with talent.

The East Asian powerhouse, perennial heavyweights in the continent, last clinched the Asian Cup in 1960. Despite consistently featuring in four finals since then, the East Asian powerhouse has been unable to secure the elusive title, maintaining a prominent yet unrewarded presence in Asian football.

Son Heung-min

This time around the team, led by former German coach Klinsmann, is optimistic about turning the tide and ending their prolonged championship drought.

Convinced with the players at his disposal, he believes that this talented group has the potential to rewrite history and bring home the coveted Asian Cup trophy after more than six decades.

The team will rely mostly on these four big stars plying their trade in Europe's top division.

Son Heung-min

Arguably one of the best players and precisely the biggest name in the tournament, the Tottenham Hotspur captain is likely to be the side's talisman. His inclusion automatically pushes South Korea as one of the major favorites to win the tournament.

Son is arguably the best Asian footballer to play in England and has been in terrific form for Tottenham this season as well. He has scored 12 goals in 20 Premier League games for Spurs this season. South Korea will hope he will bring in the same form for the national team as well.

Kim Min-Jae

Another star player who will be the key factor in South Korea's chances in this tournament. Kim was adjusted South Korean footballer of the year ahead of Son last year which can further make a strong point about his form.

Kim became the first Asian defender to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or. The 27-year-old center-back was a key player in helping Napoli win Serie A last season. Ever since moving to Bayern in the summer, he has maintained the same rhythm. Klinsmann will hope to see the best out of him in the Asian Cup now.

Hwang-Hee Chan

The Wolves attacker has been in great form lately this season and could be a x-factor for South Korea in this tournament.

The versatile attacker can play anywhere up front which has seen him scoring 10 goals in 20 games in the Premier League, including some against Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Liverpool.

He’ll be one to watch out for and can be a big factor for the Korean side in the Asian Cup.

Lee Kang In

The 22-year-old midfielder is starting to make a name for himself in Paris Saint Germain's powerhouse and South Korea will expect the same from him. Lee Kang In could be an inspired attacking player for the team who will be responsible for creating the magic in the final third.
