India at AFC Asian Cup 2023: Various Scenarios For Blue Tigers Qualification To Knockout Stages

India drew against Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria in Group B for the group stage in the AFC Asian Cup 2023. All the teams are sitting above India in the FIFA rankings. Hence, their journey to the knockout stages was never going to be easy.

They began their journey with a 0-2 loss against Australia. With two group-stage matches left in hand, the Blue Tigers still have a good chance of progressing. The Indian football team performed admirably during their match against the Socceroos.

On the other hand, Uzbekistan and Syria ended up with a single point each after their match ended on a 0-0 note in their first AFC Asian Cup 2023 match. India still have two matches left to play against Syria and Uzbekistan. Considering the results, the Blue Tigers still have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages.

India's chances for progressing to AFC Asian Cup 2023 knockout stages are:

• If India win both of their matches against Uzbekistan and Syria, they will collect 6 points from 2 matches. They can easily qualify in that case as it will leave them either in the top or the 2nd spot in their group.
• Even if India collect 4 points by winning one and drawing one or collect 3 points by winning one and losing one in their next two fixtures. They will still have a good chance of ending up in 2nd position in these scenarios.
• Even if India draw in both of their next two matches collecting 2 points, they can still end up in 3rd position in the group. Top 2 teams from the 6 groups will qualify automatically. The top 4 teams from the 3rd-placed teams will then qualify for the round of 16 stage. Hence, India will still have a good chance.

Considering how Uzbekistan and Syria perform, the same could still be said about India if they end up in 3rd place with 1 point with one draw and one loss from next matches.
