Syria vs India Preview
Leaving the battle for the third spot between Syria and India. The Syrians enter this matchup ranked third in the group, one point ahead of the Blue Tigers, who dropped their opening match of the competition, 3-0 against Uzbekistan. The Syrians lost 1-0 to Australia.
On Thursday, the Syrians played excellent defense against the Socceroos, but it was insufficient as they gave up just one goal on target and still lost. That was their first defeat of 2024, and it extends their winless run to five successive matches in all competitions.
Not only would a victory on Tuesday be this country's first in the tournament's group stage since 2011, it would also guarantee their first-ever trip to the knockout stage. Syria (ranked 66th) and India are clubbed in Group C with Iran and Palestine, who face off later at night in the same city at another venue. Syria's best finish at AFC Asian Cup is finishing runners-up in 1996 as hosts.
India, on the other hand, suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hand of Uzbekistan after going down in a one-sided loss to Australia 2-0 in the opening group match. While Indian defense was praised in the first game, it was heavily criticised for their performance against Uzbekistan once the backline was exposed against some of the quality players of Uzbekistan.
