AFC Challenge League 2024-25: Know East Bengal Manager Oscar Bruzon Record in Asian Tournaments

Manager Oscar Bruzon will lead his new team East Bengal FC in the upcoming AFC Challenge League 2024-25. The third tier of Asian club football is scheduled to start on Saturday, October 26.

Bruzon took over the Red and Gold Brigades on October 8, after manager Carles Cuadrat was sacked due to poor league form. The new gaffer has been unable to turn around the club’s fortunes, losing his first two league games against Mohun Bagan SG and Odisha FC.

However, Oscar Bruzon has extensive experience in Asian continental football, taking former clubs Bashundhara Kings and New Radiant SC to the AFC Cup as well as Champions League Qualification.

Let’s have a look at Oscar Bruzon’s history in Asian tournaments ahead of the AFC Challenge League 2024-25.

Oscar Bruzon made his name in the subcontinent after leading Maldivian club New Radiant SC to the group stage of the AFC Cup in 2018, even though they came in second place in the group.

After taking over the Bangladeshi side Bashundhara Kings, Bruzon became a regular participant in the AFC Cup, which has now been rebranded as the AFC Champions League 2. He led his club to the group stages in four seasons but failed to advance to the knockout stages. The Spanish manager also managed to take Bashundhara to the AFC Champions League Qualification but lost to Emirati side Sharjah FC by 2-0

Bruzon, as well as the fans of his new club East Bengal, will hope that his continental experience at the upcoming AFC Challenge League 2024-25 is more fruitful than his recent history. The Indian side would be aiming to secure a victory in the tournament as it would give them direct entry to next year’s AFC Champions League 2 group stage. Considering their league form, this might be their only way to secure continental football next season.

With such high stakes involved, Oscar Bruzon will surely utilise his ample experience in Asian tournaments ahead of East Bengal’s first group-stage game against Paro FC on October 26.
