Aitana Bonmati reports that rehabilitation from a broken leg has moved beyond the midway stage, yet the Barcelona midfielder still does not know whether competitive minutes will arrive before the end of this season, as Barcelona continue to compete for trophies in Liga F, the Champions League and domestic cups.
The injury happened during a November training session with Spain, while preparing for the Women's Nations League final. Bonmati landed awkwardly, broke a leg, and missed Spain's 3-0 aggregate victory over Germany. The recovery timeline of four to five months makes any appearance during the 2025-26 campaign uncertain.

Speaking at a charity event in Barcelona, Bonmati described the challenge of returning to full fitness. "It is an injury that lasts about four to five months, but we are somewhat past the middle of the process. I'm getting back to my feet. It hurts me, I can't lie to you. I hope to return as soon as possible, but there is no exact date. It will depend on how I feel and how much I can resist the pain. But I hope it will be sooner rather than later."
Attention now also turns to a demanding run of matches against Real Madrid, which Bonmati plans to follow closely. The teams will face each other three times in succession between March 24 and April 1, across Liga F and Champions League competitions. "We will play against a well-known opponent and this season we have already played them several times," she said. "This might work in our favour. Now there will be three Clasicos in a short space of time, but playing against Madrid never gets tiring. The more often the better!"
Barcelona have adapted during Bonmati's absence. The team defeated Real Madrid to lift the Supercopa de Espana Femenina last month. Barcelona currently sit 10 points clear of Madrid at the top of Liga F and have reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where the draw once again pairs them with Las Blancas.
Bonmati, the first woman to win the Ballon d'Or three times after the September award, accepts that pain levels and medical advice will dictate the next steps. The midfielder stresses that progress is steady, yet emphasises that an exact return date remains unknown, leaving future involvement this season and beyond still open.
