Al-Ahli Triumphs Over Al-Kholood 4-1 With Goals From Mahrez And Toney
Al-Ahli showcased their resilience with a decisive 4-1 victory over Al-Kholood, bouncing back from a previous defeat to Al-Shabab. The match saw Feras Al Brikan open the scoring just after halftime, following an early attempt by Gabri Veiga that hit the woodwork. Despite Al-Kholood's efforts, including Myziane Maolida hitting the post, they struggled to gain control as Al-Ahli dominated.
Riyad Mahrez quickly restored Al-Ahli's lead after Matteo Dams' own goal had temporarily levelled the score for Al-Kholood. Mahrez found the net within six minutes, expertly beating Marcelo Grohe. Sumayhan Al Nabit further extended the lead in the 77th minute, capitalising on Merih Demiral's assist. Al Nabit then won a penalty after being fouled by William Troost-Ekong.

Ivan Toney confidently converted the penalty in the 86th minute, securing a comfortable win for Al-Ahli. Gabri Veiga missed another opportunity late in the game, while Toney also failed to score from close range during stoppage time. The hosts led significantly in expected goals (xG) with 3.38 compared to Al-Kholood's 0.76.
This triumph keeps Al-Ahli in fifth place with 64 points, tied with Al-Nassr. They recently celebrated winning the AFC Champions League earlier this month. In contrast, Al-Kholood sits at 13th in the Saudi Pro League standings, four points above relegation with two games left.
The match marked only their second league encounter; previously, Al-Kholood had emerged victorious. However, this time around, Al-Ahli asserted their dominance over newly promoted teams, maintaining an unbeaten streak of 37 home matches against such sides (28 wins and nine draws), including seven consecutive victories.
Toney's Impressive Season
Toney has been instrumental for Al-Ahli this season with contributions to 25 goals (21 goals and four assists). This achievement places him alongside Djaniny and Omar Al-Somah from the 2018-19 season as players with significant goal contributions for the club.
Their commanding performance against newly promoted teams continues to highlight their strength at home. As they look forward to upcoming matches, maintaining this form will be crucial for their aspirations in both domestic and continental competitions.
