The Club World Cup commenced with a thrilling 0-0 draw between Al Ahly and Inter Miami. Goalkeepers Oscar Ustari and Mohamed El Shenawy excelled, making crucial saves to secure the stalemate.

The 2025 Club World Cup kicked off with a lively 0-0 draw between Al Ahly and Inter Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. Oscar Ustari emerged as the hero for Miami, making crucial saves, including a last-minute stop against Lionel Messi's attempt in stoppage time. Both teams had opportunities, but goalkeepers stole the spotlight with their impressive performances.

Early in the game, Ustari made a significant save by blocking Emam Ashour's shot after a swift counter-attack. He continued his excellent form by stopping Wessam Abou Ali's free-kick and Achraf Dari's header from the subsequent corner. His efforts kept Al Ahly at bay during crucial moments of the match.

Mohamed El Shenawy matched Ustari's performance with equally stunning saves. In the second half, he denied Tadeo Allende and Fafa Picault, maintaining the deadlock. El Shenawy's most notable save came in the 95th minute when he turned Messi's curling effort onto the crossbar, ensuring both teams shared the points.

Despite no goals being scored, there was plenty of action in this intense stalemate. Miami managed 14 shots compared to Al Ahly's 11, with eight on target for Al Ahly and six for Miami. Ustari stood out with eight saves as Al Ahly generated 1.98 expected goals (xG). This match marked only the third scoreless draw for Messi’s club teams in his last 108 starts since February 2022.

Luis Suarez had a chance cleared off the line during first-half stoppage time as Miami improved their play. Earlier in the second half, Messi curled a free-kick into the side netting before his late attempt was thwarted by El Shenawy.

Al Ahly and Inter Miami currently lead Group A, with Palmeiras and Porto set to play next. The tournament promises more thrilling encounters as it progresses.

The opening match of FIFA’s revamped tournament showcased exceptional goalkeeping skills despite ending without goals. Fans can look forward to more exciting matches as teams vie for supremacy in this prestigious competition.
