Al-Hilal Fail To Capitalise And Close Gap On Al-Ittihad In Saudi Pro League

Al-Hilal's 1-1 draw with Al-Ettifaq leaves them seven points behind leaders Al-Ittihad. Despite a strong second half, they could not secure a win.

Al-Hilal missed an opportunity to narrow the gap with Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad after a 1-1 draw against Al-Ettifaq. Starting the day eight points behind, Al-Hilal hoped to close in on Al-Ittihad, who had secured a 2-0 victory over Al-Orobah. However, they remain seven points adrift of Laurent Blanc's team after failing to secure a win.

Al-Ettifaq dominated the first half and took the lead in stoppage time. Joao Costa capitalised on Demarai Gray's blocked shot, scoring from outside the box. This early goal set the tone for a competitive match. Despite this setback, Al-Hilal showed resilience in the second half, pushing hard for an equaliser.

Al-Hilal Miss Chance Against Al-Ittihad

Jorge Jesus' half-time talk seemed to inspire Al-Hilal, as they improved significantly after a lacklustre first half. They failed to register any shots on target initially but managed six in the second half. Malcom found the net with a close-range finish, levelling the score and keeping their hopes alive.

Earlier that day, Al-Ahli secured a 2-0 win over struggling Al-Raed, maintaining pressure on third-place Al-Nassr. A penalty awarded in the 23rd minute saw Franck Kessie confidently convert from the spot after Hamad Al Jayzani fouled Ali Majrashi. Gabri Veiga sealed the victory with a skilful finish in the 66th minute.

Both teams sought a winner in an intense second half, with Al-Hilal taking 13 shots overall. Despite their efforts, neither side could break the deadlock again. The draw extended Al-Hilal's unbeaten run against Al-Ettifaq to 14 matches (12 wins and two draws), though they missed out on crucial points.

The victory propelled Al-Ahli to fourth place in the standings, overtaking Al-Qadisiyah and moving them within two points of Al-Nassr. This result sets up an exciting contest as Al-Nassr prepares for their upcoming match on Saturday.

Despite their efforts and improved performance post-break, Al-Hilal couldn't find that decisive edge needed for victory. Their unbeaten streak against Al-Ettifaq continues but securing wins remains essential for closing gaps at this stage of the season.
