Al-Ittihad secured a decisive 4-1 victory over Al-Hilal, extending their lead in the Saudi Pro League to seven points. Steven Bergwijn and Karim Benzema were key contributors to this triumph at King Abdullah Sport City. Bergwijn scored twice, helping Laurent Blanc's team overturn an early deficit and establish themselves as strong title contenders.
Al-Hilal initially took the lead when Marcos Leonardo converted Joao Cancelo's cross in the 23rd minute. However, their advantage was short-lived. Just six minutes later, Hassan Kadish equalised for Al-Ittihad. Bergwijn then put his team ahead with a powerful finish just before half-time.

Bergwijn extended Al-Ittihad's lead to 3-1 early in the second half, assisted by N'Golo Kante. Despite Al-Hilal dominating possession and attempting 16 shots compared to Al-Ittihad's five in the second half, they couldn't capitalise on their chances. Benzema sealed the victory with a volley from Moussa Diaby's corner in the 86th minute.
Benzema's goal marked his 16th of the season, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo at the top of the scoring charts. Impressively, Benzema achieved this feat in fewer matches than Ronaldo and with a lower expected goals (xG) tally of 13.1 compared to Ronaldo's 16.6. His shot conversion rate also surpassed Ronaldo's at 21.6%.
This loss adds to Al-Hilal's recent struggles, having won only one of their last five league matches after previously securing five consecutive victories. Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad celebrated their fourth consecutive win and their 15th victory in their last 17 league games, showcasing their dominance in the league.
The match highlighted Al-Ittihad's strong form and ability to capitalise on opportunities despite facing a formidable opponent like Al-Hilal. Their performance solidifies their position as favourites for the Saudi Pro League title this season.
