Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo's joke with Wojciech Szczesny now could ignite controversy

Portugal and Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo recently found himself in the spotlight again, not for his on-field heroics, but for a seemingly lighthearted comment that has stirred controversy among Juventus fans.

The moment occurred during a reunion with his former Juventus teammate, Wojciech Szczesny, ahead of Portugal’s Nations League clash against Poland at the Kazimierz Gorski National Stadium in Warsaw.

The match saw Portugal continue their flawless run in the competition, defeating Poland 3-1. Ronaldo, ever the talisman, netted his 133rd international goal, helping to secure his country's unbeaten record in the current Nations League edition. However, it was his interaction with Szczesny that caught the attention of many.

Szczesny, now 34, recently announced his retirement from international football but was present at the stadium to bid farewell to his Polish teammates. The former Juventus goalkeeper had initially called time on his footballing career after leaving the Turin club in August.

However, in a surprising twist, Szczesny reversed his decision by joining Barcelona on a short-term deal after Marc Andre Ter Stegan's season-long injury.

Before the Portugal-Poland match, the two former Juventus teammates met in the stadium tunnel, exchanging pleasantries in a moment captured on camera.

During their brief conversation, Szczesny mentioned his recent move to Barcelona, saying, "I play for Barcelona now." Ronaldo, acknowledging the move with a smile, responded, "I know!"

What followed was a lighthearted exchange, but one that has since sparked debate. Szczesny, perhaps poking fun at the famous rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, quipped, "Don't worry, I won't tell anybody," referring to Ronaldo’s former ties to Madrid.

In response, Ronaldo made a cheeky remark that has since ignited controversy: "Unbelievable, you needed to retire to go to a big club."

Though Ronaldo’s comment was delivered in play, it has stirred emotions among Juventus fans. Some have interpreted it as a slight dig at the Italian giants, especially given Ronaldo's turbulent exit from the club in 2021.

The Portuguese star spent three years in Turin, where he won multiple titles but also became embroiled in a legal dispute with the club over unpaid wages. This legal battle, coupled with Ronaldo's latest remarks, could only fuel frustrations among Juventus supporters.
