Al Nassr vs Al Hilal: Ronaldo’s Side Look To End The 7 Year Title Drought With A Win At Riyadh Derby

The cauldron of the title race at the Saudi Pro League reaches a boiling point on Tuesday as Al Nassr and Al Hilal look to battle it out in the Riyadh Derby. While a win at the Riyadh Derby could see Al Nassr win the SPL for the first time after the 2018-19 season, the Hilalis need 3 wins from their final three matches to take the title.

The stakes could not be higher than this. Traditionally, the Riyadh Derby, colloquially known as the 'Derby of Fury', is one of the most club fixtures in the Arab world. In the past, games between Saudi Arabia's big two tend to serve up intensity, drama, and controversial decisions almost every time.

Al Nassr vs Al Hilal Ronaldo s Side Look To End The 7 Year Title Drought With A Win At Riyadh Derby

Saudi outlet News50.sa highlighted the magnitude of the clash, stating that victory would go beyond just earning points, calling it "a battle to establish dominance and reaffirm football supremacy in the Kingdom."

Al Nassr vs Al Hilal: Head-to-Head Titles

The high-profile Saudi Pro League showdown between Al Nassr and Al Hilal carries massive significance. Al Hilal, with 19 league titles, remains the most decorated side, while Al Nassr has secured 10. A win for either team would not only boost their standing domestically but also strengthen their global brand, opening doors to increased broadcast and sponsorship revenues.

Al Hilal head into the fixture at Al Awwal Park on the back of success, having lifted the King's Cup after a 2-1 win over Al Kholood, sealed by a decisive strike from Theo Hernandez.

In contrast, Cristiano Ronaldo is still chasing his first major domestic trophy with Al Nassr. Since his arrival, his only silverware has been the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. A victory in this crucial derby could finally deliver the marquee title he has been seeking in Saudi football.

Al Nassr vs Al Hilal: What Is At Stake?

Al Hilal, the most successful club in Saudi Arabia, brings with it a rich legacy and a cabinet full of titles. Meanwhile, Al Nassr sits at the top of the table, holds the advantage of playing at home, and boasts a multiple Ballon d'Or winner in Cristiano Ronaldo, who continues to deliver at the highest level even at 41.

The equation is straightforward: Al Hilal must defeat Al Nassr and then secure wins in their remaining fixtures against Neom and Al Fayha to clinch a record-extending 20th league title.

For Al Nassr, however, a victory over their fiercest rivals on Tuesday would be enough to seal the championship, marking their first league triumph in seven years.
