Alberto Aquilani To Coach Berardi Again At Sassuolo In Serie A
Alberto Aquilani expressed pride after taking charge of Sassuolo and preparing to guide former team-mate Domenico Berardi in Serie A. The 41-year-old is beginning a first top-flight job, following spells with Pisa and Catanzaro in Serie B.
Aquilani described coaching Berardi as a special moment, having previously shared the dressing room at Sassuolo during the 2016-17 season. Berardi remains central to the club’s plans, so Aquilani’s arrival brings a renewed link between dressing room and touchline.

Aquilani underlined the personal meaning of this reunion with the forward. "Meeting him again in this role feels a little strange, because I had the chance to play with him and appreciate his incredible qualities," said Aquilani. The new coach now moves from midfield partner to tactical leader.
Berardi’s record underlines that importance. The forward has played 424 games for Sassuolo in all competitions, scoring 156 goals and delivering 103 assists. Since a Serie A debut in the 2013-14 season, Berardi has contributed the sixth-highest number of goals among current top-flight players.
Aquilani highlighted Berardi’s long service and leadership for Sassuolo. "He has been here for many years and has always driven this team towards important targets. For me, it will be an honour to coach him." The coach stressed respect for Berardi’s influence.
The former Liverpool midfielder acknowledged the scale of the task in Serie A but sounded confident about Sassuolo’s chances. "I know it is a difficult league, but I feel ready to face it with this team and this club," Aquilani said, outlining determination rather than making bold predictions.
Aquilani also addressed supporters, recalling past contact with the fanbase and promising full commitment. "To the fans, it is a pleasure to see them again. I wish them all the best, and I assure them that from me and my staff, we will give everything within our power so that Sassuolo can have the satisfactions they deserve."
