Alessia Russo fires Arsenal deeper into the Women's Super League title and Champions League race, after a ruthless hat-trick in the North London derby sets up a 5-2 win over Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium and lifts Arsenal to second place in the table.
The England forward secures the match ball inside 27 minutes, driving Arsenal's attack. Russo scores with a diving header into the bottom-right corner after five minutes, then rounds Lize Kop to finish from a tight angle two minutes later, before punishing a Kop error for her third goal.

Arsenal manager Renee Slegers highlights Russo's growing authority within the squad, underlining how influence off the pitch now matches output on it. Slegers describes how Russo has become more vocal at London Colney and how that presence has earned a place within Arsenal's leadership group in this campaign.
"In training, she is communicating more and instructing more, driving the team by being more vocal. You can see that she's stepping up," Slegers said.
"She is also part of the leadership group now. She is always herself, wanting to bring her best version, and she is very humble. She's developing that, and we love to see it."
Russo reaches 13 goal involvements in this Women's Super League season, with nine goals and four assists. Only Manchester City attackers Khadija Shaw, on 22, and Vivianne Miedema, on 15, have more. Russo also targets a fourth straight WSL campaign with at least 10 goals, underlining consistency at domestic level.

Although Russo leads the line against Tottenham, Arsenal have often used Russo deeper this season. Around 31% of Russo's league minutes come as a number 10, which changes off-ball work and pressing duties, yet Russo stresses that understanding of that position now feels stronger and more natural during matches.
"Now I understand the details of the 10 a bit more, I find it a bit easier. Knowing what I need to do out of possession is a big one, it is a big role in the team," she said.
"On the ball, I like both because they offer different parts of my game. I'll play anywhereI don't care! I love to score goals as much as I can and to do it here at the Emirates in a North London derby is really nice. It's a good three points moving on to the rest of the season."
Arsenal now switch focus from the derby to Europe, carrying a 3-1 lead into Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea. That tie offers a route into the last four, while also testing squad depth during a congested phase of the season across all competitions.
Domestic cup commitments also continue, with Brighton awaiting Arsenal in the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals. The Brighton tie sits alongside the European push and the league chase, demanding careful management of minutes for Russo and other key players as the schedule tightens across March and April.

In league terms, Arsenal remain the only side able to pressure runaway leaders Manchester City in the closing weeks. Victory in both games in hand would move Arsenal within five points of the top, and performances like Russo's against Tottenham keep realistic hopes of a tense Women's Super League finish.
