Alex Jimenez Apologises To Massimiliano Allegri After Milan Exit

Spanish full-back Alex Jimenez apologised to Massimiliano Allegri after criticising him as a poor coach following his exit from AC Milan. The move to AFC Bournemouth was initially a loan that became permanent, with Jimenez emphasising the learning from a turbulent season and his commitment to improving the team.

Alex Jimenez confirmed that an insult aimed at Massimiliano Allegri led to a direct apology, after leaked messages showed the defender calling the coach a s*** manager following Jimenez’s time at AC Milan, with the Spanish full-back stressing that the comments did not reflect real views on Allegri’s record or long-term career.

The 20-year-old moved from Milan to Bournemouth for the 2025-26 Premier League season, first on loan and then permanently, and has since established a regular place with the Cherries after earlier breaking into Milan’s senior side in 2023-24, when Jimenez appeared in 26 Serie A matches.

Alex Jimenez apologises to Allegri

Jimenez, who came through the Real Madrid academy before joining AC Milan, discussed the controversy with Sky Sports Italia, explaining regret over private messages that became public and insisting respect for Allegri’s track record, while also pointing out that the wider situation at Milan affected personal calm and thinking around that period.

Leaked texts showed Jimenez using an insult towards Massimiliano Allegri, but the defender has since tried to distance from that judgment, stating: "It was rubbish, I don't think Allegri is a sh** coach and his history proves that," with the Spaniard adding that frustration after being left out of a match played a major part.

Detailing how the row started, Jimenez said: "I was coming out of a game, I hadnt played and I was angry, I chose the wrong person to send that message to." Jimenez added: "From day one, I apologised to Allegri, I didn't think about what I was writing. He accepted my apology."

The defender linked the incident to a difficult 2024-25 campaign at AC Milan, when the club went through three coaches in Stefano Pioli, Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao, noting that those changes, plus uncertainty over personal role, affected mental balance and led Jimenez to ask the club to study possible transfer options.

Jimenez said: "All these situations took away from my sense of serenity, and I was the one who told the club to look for solutions [in the transfer market]. Milan is a club that I love and I didn't want to feel bad or negatively impact the team with my bad phase."

Reflecting on that Milan spell, Jimenez stressed collective responsibility, stating: "I dont think it was ever a problem with the coaches, it was a team problem. We needed to have more confidence in ourselves. That's how it is in football, one year you do badly and the next you do well. Look how it is now." The full-back is now settled at Bournemouth while still expressing strong affection for Milan.
