Alex Neil Takes Over As Millwall Manager After Neil Harris Leaves Club

Millwall has appointed Alex Neil as their new head coach following the departure of Neil Harris. With extensive Championship experience, Neil aims to revitalise the team currently positioned 13th in the league.

Millwall have announced Alex Neil as their new head coach, following Neil Harris' exit. Neil, who previously managed Preston North End, Sunderland, and Stoke City, has signed a long-term contract. He was present at the Coventry Building Society Arena to watch Millwall's recent goalless draw against Coventry City, led by Frank Lampard.

Neil brings extensive experience from the Championship, having managed 389 matches across four clubs. His record includes 151 wins, 93 draws, and 145 losses. Notably, he guided Norwich City to Premier League promotion in 2015. Now, he faces the challenge of improving Millwall's current position of 13th in the league table.

Alex Neil Becomes New Millwall Manager

Neil expressed enthusiasm about his new role at Millwall. "The opportunity was a great one for me," he said. "I think it's very similar to when I went in at Preston, going into a good environment." He aims to develop a playing style and integrate younger players into the team.

Neil's first match as Millwall's head coach will be against Oxford United on New Year's Day. The team has struggled recently, with only one win in their last nine league games. Despite this, Neil is optimistic about building on the existing foundation and addressing any issues.

Previously managing Stoke City for 16 months until December 2023, Neil was dismissed due to poor results in the Championship. However, his wealth of experience in England's second tier makes him a promising choice for Millwall as they seek improvement.

Neil sees parallels between his new role and his previous tenure at Preston North End. He believes that while there are no major problems at Millwall, there is room for growth and development within the squad. His focus will be on nurturing young talent and refining the team's playing style.

As Neil takes charge of Millwall, fans hope his experience will lead to better performances and results on the pitch. The club looks forward to seeing how his leadership will impact their future success in the league.
