Alex Sandro prefers Chelsea over Manchester United

Reports in Italy claim that Alex Sandro has already told Juventus that he wants a transfer in January and his preferred destination is Chelsea rather than Manchester United.

Juventus full-back Alex Sandro

Bengaluru, December 13: Premier League champions Chelsea look to be in pole position to bag Juventus defender Alex Sandro ahead of their rivals Manchester United.

Reports in Italy claim that Alex Sandro has already told Juventus that he wants a transfer in January and his preferred destination is Chelsea rather than Manchester United.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of the bombarding full-back and were chasing the Juventus full-back all summer, but the Italian champions demanded a staggering £80million for the Brazilian international which Chelsea refused to pay.

Sandro, 26, was hoping a deal could be done between the clubs without much of a fuss but after the failure of a deal being materialised, he is furious with Juventus.

The defender’s relationship with the Serie A champions has deteriorated as the season has gone on.

Juventus could be forced to sell their prized asset before facing Tottenham in the Champions League in February and things look promising for Chelsea.

Antonio Conte is desperate to add a top quality left sided defender so he can rotate Marcos Alonso, who has already made 22 appearances this season in the highly demanding wing-back role.

The Premier League champions will look to take advantage of the broken relationship between Sandro and the club and the Blues are likely to table a significantly lower bid than the £80m quoted in July.

Meanwhile, Manchester United, who also need a left-back are looking to use their financial prowess and trump Chelsea for the 26-year-old Brazilian international.

Manchester United have also targeted Sandro as a priority in January with Jose Mourinho searching for an alternative to Spurs defender Danny Rose.

The Old Trafford hierarchy share a poor relationship with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy following their failed enquiry for Eric Dier in the summer.

Losing out on Sandro to Conte will be a huge blow for Mourinho who is desperate to add a quality left-back to his squad and offload Luke Shaw who is out of favour of the Portuguese.
