Arsene Wenger confirms Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi will return to training on Sunday.

The Arsenal superstar has been consistently linked with an exit this summer with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain emerging as his potential suitors but at the moment, he is still an Arsenal player and Wenger has made it clear time and time again that he will not accept any bid for his priced asset.

Sanchez has just one year left in his contract and has made it clear that he will not extend but still Wenger is keen on the Chilean to stay despite the threat of losing him for free next summer.

Wenger has now confirmed that Sanchez is due to return to the north London club this weekend and will resume training on Sunday (July 30).

The prolific forward was given an extended break following his involvement at the Confederations Cup but is now heading back to London and will resume training this weekend alongside Shkodran Mustafi who was in part of the Confed Cup winning Germany team.

“Alexis and Mustafi, their first training session will be on Sunday, the day we play against Sevilla [in the Emirates Cup]," Arsene Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“They are practising on the day."

Sanchez will have 12 days to prepare for the opening Premier League game against Leicester and Wenger says he will be keeping a close eye on his progress before deciding if he is ready to play in the big kick-off.

Wenger added: “First of all you make a really good check up of where they are, how much they have worked during their break.

"After, once you know where you stand, they need an adjusted programme and to see how quickly you can fit them in again.

“Of course it depends as well on what is the need in the squad, what is their quality. All of these things together make your decision. Do you put them on the bench when they are not ready [to start]?

"It is easier to put a striker on the bench than a defender, sometimes. Because in a short period they can make an impact. We'll see."

Arsenal host Sevilla, Benfica and RB Leipzig in the Emirates Cup in a two day event starting tomorrow (July 29) in London.
