Alexis Sanchez dreams to play for Barcelona

By Biswajeet Panda
Rome, June 28: Alexis Sanchez, the Udinese attacker has stated clearly that in order to develop himself into becoming the best footballer in the world, he wants to join La Liga side Barcelona.

The 22-year old Chilean, touted as the next big football superstar, is one of the most sought after players of the summer transfer window. There is an increasing belief in the footballing circuits that he might be on his way to the Spanish Club Barcelona for the 2011-12 La Liga season.

Sport quoted Sanchez as saying: "I dream of playing for Barcelona, because I have the chance to win a lot of trophies there. My biggest objective is to win a lot of silverware. I am still a young player, but I have the ambition to become the best player in the world. I need to be more clinical in front of the goal, but I am very eager to continue developing into a better player. My biggest secret is perhaps my humility."

Interestingly that comes after a recent statement by Gino Pozzo, the son of Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo, where he said that Sanchez had no preference between a move to either Barcelona or EPL side Manchester City.

A representative from Udinese had in the third week of June claimed that the Catalans, as Barcelona is fondly referred to by fans, were on the verge of finalising a deal for Sanchez.

Sanchez, although not yet in the same league as Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, has a very aggressive style of play and has been earmarked by many for footballing greatness.

In the interview with Sports, he was quoted as saying, "I am not afraid of any defender. When they're trying to hit me, I just tell them to play football or go boxing. I don't even know the name of my opponent most of the time. I go out with the goal to beat them and get past them. I don't respond to provocations."
