Al-Nassr's ambitious move: Cristiano Ronaldo's current playground could acquire a massive upgrade

In a groundbreaking development, Al-Nassr, the club that secured the services of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2022, is expected to step into a new era with the construction of a state-of-the-art 45,000-seater stadium, backed by the Saudi Arabian state.

The anticipated upgrade from their current home at Al-Awwal Park, boasting a capacity of 25,000, signals a significant improvement for Al-Nassr. The stadium which is set to be named Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, promises a futuristic experience never seen before on football grounds.

One of the standout features of the Stadium will be the incorporation of cutting-edge technology. Plans include a retractable roof and pitch, but the true spectacle lies in the giant LED wall featuring hundreds of meters of screens. This innovative design is set to create a unique atmosphere, opening out onto breathtaking views below the ground.

The architectural marvel will be situated atop a 200-metre-high cliff near Riyadh, overlooking a manmade lake that not only enhances aesthetics but also contributes to cooling the stadium. The renowned architectural firm Populous, responsible for the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in England, reportedly has been tasked with bringing this vision to life.

The stadium is expected to be completed by 2030, providing an exciting prospect for both Al-Nassr and the Saudi football scene. Whether Ronaldo will still be there till then is uncertain though. As Al-Nassr prepares to make Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium its new home, there's a possibility that rivals Al-Hilal might also utilize the cutting-edge facility.

Notably, the ambitious stadium plans align with Saudi Arabia's aspirations to host the 2034 World Cup. With Australia withdrawing from the bidding process, the Middle East region emerges as the frontrunner, and the Saudis are leaving no stone unturned. The grand designs for new stadiums across the country signal the nation's commitment to securing the prestigious tournament.
