Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United is fortunate to have Bruno Fernandes as their captain. As they gear up to face Fulham on Sunday, United's performance under Amorim has been inconsistent, with six losses in 11 league matches. They currently sit 13th in the Premier League standings. However, a recent 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League, secured by Fernandes' late goal, has provided a boost.
Amorim praised Fernandes for his quality and determination, highlighting his importance in a team struggling with confidence. "He is a top player and people talk a lot about his frustration and [they] always talk a lot about his arms in the air," Amorim stated on Friday. "Sometimes, it is not a good thing to see, but you have to see the other side."

Fernandes' ability to demand the ball under pressure is crucial in the Premier League. He consistently makes himself available and runs tirelessly for the team. Despite occasional mistakes, like those made by Amorim himself last week, Fernandes' passion and significance cannot be overstated. "We are lucky to have a player like Bruno Fernandes," Amorim added.
The decision of who will start as goalkeeper remains challenging for Amorim. Altay Bayindir or Andre Onana could take the spot. Onana has made three errors leading to goals this season, matching David de Gea's record from 2019-20. His save percentage of 63.6% is also the lowest since Anders Lindegaard's 55.3% in 2012-13.
Amorim explained that starting Bayindir was part of planned rotation during FA Cup and Europa League matches. "It is always an even fight, but this was rotation, it was prepared," he said regarding Bayindir's inclusion. The rotation strategy was premeditated and will continue as planned.
The coach emphasized that both goalkeepers are talented and need opportunities to play within the team structure. "We have two really good goalkeepers, and they need time to play," Amorim noted.
As Manchester United prepares for their upcoming match against Fulham, they aim to build on recent successes while addressing ongoing challenges within the squad.
