Amorim Commends Zirkzee's Influence Following Goal Drought In Premier League Match

Ruben Amorim praised Joshua Zirkzee for his significant impact in Manchester United's victory over Crystal Palace. Zirkzee's goal marked an important return to form as United secured a crucial win.

Ruben Amorim praised Joshua Zirkzee's impact after Manchester United's comeback against Crystal Palace. The team was down due to Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty but turned it around with goals from Zirkzee and Mason Mount. This 2-1 win marked their first victory in London in seven tries and only the second time they won a Premier League match under Amorim when trailing at halftime.

Zirkzee's goal came nearly a year after his last top-flight score, which was part of a brace in a 4-0 win over Everton on December 1, 2024. Amorim noted that while scoring is crucial, Zirkzee's ability to hold the ball has significantly improved, boosting his confidence and influence on the game. "Scoring is important, but it's not just the goals," Amorim said about the Netherlands international.

Amorim Praises Zirkzee After Goal Drought

Amorim expressed satisfaction with his team's second-half performance, which propelled them back into the top six. He emphasized that small details made a difference, particularly the increased pace and intensity after halftime. "The pace and intensity was better in the second half," he added.

The manager observed that Crystal Palace appeared fatigued towards the end of the first half, providing an opportunity for United to capitalize if they scored. "I could see Palace were getting tired at the end of the first half," Amorim noted. United managed to control the game effectively away from their own goal and within Palace's half.

Despite this victory, Amorim remains cautious about getting carried away. He stressed that evaluating and evolving their gameplay is crucial for future success. "In this moment, I just want to evaluate our team," he stated. The focus is on creating variety in their build-up play to ensure continued improvement.

Amorim also highlighted that other players in the squad are capable of scoring and expressed satisfaction with their efforts. He acknowledged that Zirkzee hasn't had many minutes but praised both him and Mason Mount for their hard work. "Joshua hasn't had many minutes and Mason works really hard," he mentioned.

This win demonstrates Manchester United's potential under Amorim's leadership as they aim to maintain consistency in their performances moving forward.
