Ruben Amorim has suggested that Manchester United might not pursue a new striker in the current transfer window. The club has already added Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to their roster this summer. Last season, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were the primary forwards, but they only managed to score seven Premier League goals between them in the 2024-25 season.
Despite rumours linking United with Viktor Gyokeres, Ollie Watkins, and Benjamin Sesko, Amorim feels confident in the current attacking options. He believes that with the right connections, the team can surpass last season's total of 44 league goals. "They [Cunha and Mbeumo] can play as a striker," said Amorim. "We have Josh, we have Rasmus. Our focus is to improve the connection between them."

Cunha and Mbeumo are versatile players who can lead the attack but are more familiar with playing on the wings. Last season, Cunha spent just 12% of his 2,600 Premier League minutes as a central striker. Similarly, Mbeumo played 17% of his 3,415 minutes in a central role. Most of Cunha's time was on the left wing (69%), while Mbeumo primarily played on the right (81%).
Both players were more effective for their previous clubs compared to Hojlund and Zirkzee. Mbeumo scored 20 league goals and provided seven assists for Brentford last season. Meanwhile, Cunha contributed 15 goals and six assists for Wolves. Their performances outshone those of Hojlund and Zirkzee.
Cunha (+6.37) and Mbeumo (+7.74) exceeded their expected goals figures significantly. They converted 71.4% and 55% of their big chances respectively, whereas Hojlund managed only 33.3% and Zirkzee just 22.2%. This highlights their efficiency in front of goal compared to their new teammates.
Amorim appreciates Cunha's and Mbeumo's decision to join United despite having other offers, including from Champions League clubs. "They had other options... but they chose to be here," he noted, emphasising their commitment as a key factor.
The manager is optimistic about improving teamwork among his forwards rather than seeking new signings immediately. He values humility in his players and believes that fostering better connections will enhance their performance on the pitch.
