Ruben Amorim is eager for Manchester United players to draw inspiration from the club's storied past as he aims to revive a winning spirit at Old Trafford. Amorim, who has taken over following Erik ten Hag's departure, shared his thoughts in his first interview after touring the iconic stadium. The Portuguese coach recently visited Old Trafford, meeting fans and England star Ella Toone.
Amorim emphasised the importance of understanding the club's history, particularly how Manchester United triumphed under Matt Busby after the Munich air disaster in 1958. "When you come [to Old Trafford], it's so different. You see the trophies, you see the tragedy that we have as a club. The history," said Amorim. He believes this resilience should inspire current players.

The 39-year-old manager stressed that players should regularly tour the stadium to reconnect with its legacy. "This kind of strength, I think it's important to put in our team," he stated. Amorim feels that experiencing the club's history firsthand can reignite a winning mentality among players who may have lost it over time.
Manchester United has not won the Premier League for many years, yet Amorim insists they remain England's biggest club due to their rich history. He believes it is crucial to remind players of this legacy and strive for success once more. "We haven't won the Premier League for a long time," he noted.
When asked about his football philosophy, Amorim highlighted teamwork as paramount. "The team is the most important thing for me," he said. He believes individual talent will naturally shine when players work cohesively as a unit. Character and identity are also vital components of his approach.
Amorim expressed his desire to win with both players and fans while maintaining a clear identity and unified vision. His debut match in charge will be against Ipswich Town on November 24 at Portman Road. Despite challenges, he remains committed to restoring Manchester United's former glory.
The former Portugal international revealed he never considered joining another club, feeling honoured by his appointment at Manchester United. "I'm really honoured to be here," he said, expressing his dedication to defending his players and doing everything possible for the team.
Currently, Manchester United sits in 13th place in the Premier League with 15 points from 11 matches under Amorim's leadership. They face significant challenges in the Europa League as well, having secured their first win against PAOK only recently under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Amorim is determined to elevate Manchester United back to its rightful place in football and is confident in achieving success with hard work and dedication.
