Ruben Amorim Expresses Desire For Marcus Rashford To Stay At Manchester United Amid Speculation

Ruben Amorim has not ruled out Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United. Despite recent struggles, he aims to support Rashford in regaining his best form and emphasises the importance of retaining such talent.

Ruben Amorim remains open to Marcus Rashford's future at Manchester United, despite the player's hints about seeking new challenges. In a recent interview with Henry Winter, Rashford expressed his desire for a fresh start after enduring a challenging period at his lifelong club. The forward, along with Alejandro Garnacho, was omitted from the squad during United's narrow 2-1 win over Manchester City last Sunday.

Rashford has not been able to replicate his impressive form from Erik ten Hag's debut season, where he netted 30 goals in 56 matches across all competitions. This season, the 27-year-old has scored four goals in 15 Premier League games, matching captain Bruno Fernandes' tally. Rashford has exceeded his expected goals (xG) by 3.3 and boasts the highest shot conversion rate (36.36%) in United's top-flight squad.

Amorim Wants Rashford to Remain at United

Despite signing a new contract last year that ties him to Old Trafford until 2028, Amorim is eager for Rashford to stay and regain his form. "I spoke with a lot of players individually and during training," Amorim stated at a press conference. "What I want is to take the best of Marcus Rashford." He emphasized focusing on the present rather than speculating about the future.

Amorim further added, "We are better with Marcus Rashford and it's that simple. We will try different things to push Rashford to the best levels that he has shown me in the past." When questioned about wanting Rashford to remain at the club, Amorim affirmed, "Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents and he is a big talent."

Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for United since debuting in February 2016. However, tensions arose earlier this year between him and INEOS leadership due to their clean culture approach following multiple disagreements with Ten Hag. Despite these challenges, Amorim insists that speculation surrounding Rashford's future won't affect his team.

"They [players] are more simple than that," Amorim explained. "They focus on their job. I was a player and we are a little bit selfish. It is not even an impact on the team." He stressed that decisions would be based on training performance: "If they train well, then I have to make a choice."

Upcoming Matches for Manchester United

United is gearing up for an EFL Cup match against Tottenham on Thursday before resuming domestic play against Bournemouth three days later. The Red Devils will then face Wolves and Newcastle United as they conclude their 2024 fixtures. Amorim remains focused on ensuring all players are prepared for each match.

When asked if he would consider letting Rashford leave in January, Amorim responded: "This is in the future; my focus is that all the players are at their best and can be prepared for each match." His priority remains helping each player perform optimally every day.
