Ruben Amorim Expresses Frustration Over Manchester United's Loss Of Control In West Ham Draw
Ruben Amorim expressed his disappointment after Manchester United drew 1-1 with West Ham. Diogo Dalot gave United the lead just before the hour mark, but Soungoutou Magassa equalised in the 83rd minute. This result marked another instance where United failed to maintain their lead, a recurring issue for them this season.
United's defensive struggles were highlighted by their vulnerability at corners. Since last season, only West Ham has conceded more goals from corners than United's 15. Magassa's goal came from a rebound after Noussair Mazraoui cleared off the line. Despite having 64.9% possession and taking 17 shots worth 1.6 expected goals (xG), United managed only four shots on target.

Amorim was frustrated by his team's inconsistency, noting it was the third time in five games they let a lead slip. "We should have closed the game with the ball because the game was there to win," Amorim told BBC Match of the Day. He emphasised that they needed to defend their advantage away from their goal.
The manager pointed out that United lost control during parts of both halves, especially after scoring. "The game was clearly ours to win," he said, lamenting missed opportunities like Cunha's chance to seal the victory. Amorim found it frustrating that despite having control, they couldn't secure a win.
Diogo Dalot scored his fourth Premier League goal for United, marking his first at Old Trafford in his 74th home league appearance. He scored with his only shot and contributed defensively with two interceptions. Dalot stressed the importance of maintaining control when leading.
"Obviously disappointed," Dalot told Sky Sports about the draw. He noted that they needed better control at Old Trafford and shouldn't become anxious when leading. "You fight for 60 minutes to score a goal, and when it happens, you should keep doing the same things," he added.
Dalot acknowledged that their inability to hold onto leads is an issue they must address internally. "In the end, we have to look to ourselves," he stated, recognising that it's primarily their responsibility to rectify these shortcomings.
This match highlighted Manchester United's ongoing challenge with consistency and defensive stability, particularly from set-pieces like corners. As they continue their campaign, addressing these issues will be crucial for improving results and maintaining leads in future matches.
