Ruben Amorim expressed his view that Manchester United had control during their EFL Cup semi-final against Tottenham, despite a 4-3 defeat. United initially trailed 3-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but managed to close the gap thanks to two errors by Fraser Forster. Amorim appreciated his team's response and believes there are valuable lessons to be learned from the match.
Amorim highlighted that his team disconnected at the start of the second half, which posed challenges. He remarked, "If you look at all of the game we were the best team but they were more clinical." Despite the loss, he valued the players' determination and noted that they need time to reflect on their performance. He emphasised that winning trophies alone won't solve all issues, as their ultimate aim is to secure the Premier League title.

Marcus Rashford was notably absent from the squad for a second consecutive match. This absence followed his statement about seeking new opportunities beyond Manchester United. However, Amorim remains optimistic about Rashford's future with the club. He anticipates Rashford's involvement in Sunday's Premier League clash against Bournemouth, affirming, "Tomorrow we have training, he will be there preparing for the next game."
Amorim stressed that while silverware is important, it doesn't address all underlying issues within a club. Reflecting on their current state, he stated, "We cannot think in that way that winning silverware makes everything okay." The focus remains on continuous improvement as they strive towards their long-term goal of winning the Premier League.
Despite being eliminated from the Carabao Cup, Amorim sees potential growth opportunities from this experience. He acknowledged that although they lost, there were significant positives to take away from their performance. The journey towards achieving their ambitions is ongoing and requires patience and dedication.
