London, March 20: Andreas Christensen has opened up on his efforts to resolve the defensive mistakes he has done recently, conceding that he turned to the former club legend John Terry for counsel.
The Denmark defender came back from a two-year loan spell with Borussia Mönchengladbach last year and slowly established himself as a mainstay inclusion in Antonio Conte's heart of the defence.
The 21-year-old displaced last yar's regular David Luiz, with his calm authority and capacity on the ball, however recently made some blunders which cost his team badly.
Christensen was culpable for goals conceded against Barcelona in the Champions League and Manchester City and Manchester United in the Premier League wherein all of the games they failed to register a win.
And this led the young centre-half to seek out Terry when he was at Chelsea during a rehabilitation program after getting injured while playing for Championship side Aston Villa.
The young Dane explained Terry, his club's former captain, who played more than 700 times for Chelsea and won every major honour at the club during his time at Chelsea has adviced the youngster to forget about mistakes and it’s natural to make mistakes.
“I try to keep it inside the club and not bring it home with me,” said Christensen. “My team-mates have also seen all my other performances, so they know that these mistakes aren't typical for me.
“I have had a smaller talk with John Terry, he has also experienced setbacks, and it is always nice to talk to someone watching it from the outside and to learn that they have experienced the same.
“He told me that it is natural to make mistakes. And he tried to put it in perspective for me saying that if a forward misses a chance he can make it good again by scoring when he gets the next opportunity, but we can't change a goal scored against us.
“So when we make mistakes it is more crucial and it is easy to point fingers at. I have realised it, looked at it and now I have moved on.”
Christensen has made 36 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season and currently is in Denmark's training camp for their friendly matches against Panama and Chile.
