Andy Robertson Pursues Kenny Dalglish's Scotland Caps Record Ahead Of Nations League Play-off

Andy Robertson is on track to earn his 81st cap for Scotland, moving closer to Kenny Dalglish's record of 102. He expresses pride in representing his country and aims for continued success in the Nations League.

Andy Robertson is set to earn his 81st cap for Scotland, moving him to third on the nation's all-time list. He will surpass Darren Fletcher's 80 caps during the Nations League play-off against Greece. Only Jim Leighton and Kenny Dalglish have more appearances, with 91 and 102 caps respectively. Robertson, at 31, has no plans to slow down his international career.

Scotland aims to maintain their League A status in the Nations League after finishing third in Group A1. They secured this position with a dramatic 2-1 win over Poland in Warsaw. This success followed a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign where they exited in the group stages with just one point from three matches.

Robertson Aims for Dalglish's Caps Record

Robertson expressed pride in Scotland's ability to compete at a high level despite setbacks. "The Nations League has been important for us and the aim was always to get to League A," he stated. The team showed resilience by holding their own against strong teams like Portugal and Croatia.

Attention now shifts to Scotland's quest for their first World Cup finals appearance since 1998. Having participated in consecutive European Championships, Robertson sees this as a significant goal. "Playing at a World Cup would be the ultimate," he remarked, hoping for a fit squad to make a strong attempt.

The Liverpool defender enjoys representing Scotland and aims to collect as many caps as possible. "I love playing for Scotland, showing up for every camp," Robertson shared with BBC Scotland. His commitment remains strong as he balances his responsibilities with both club and country.

Despite past challenges, Robertson remains optimistic about the future of Scottish football. After criticism following their Euro performance, he believes the team has responded well. "There was a lot of negativity after the Euros," he admitted, but emphasized their determination to improve and succeed.

Robertson humorously mentioned teasing Kenny Dalglish about breaking his record for most caps. "I actually said to Kenny the other week, 'I'm coming for you'," he recalled. Dalglish responded that many have tried before but he's still ahead. Robertson is proud of reaching 80 caps and focuses on staying fit for both Liverpool and Scotland.
