Anelka's future at Chelsea in doubt

London, Jan 24 (ANI): Nicolas Anelka's Chelsea future is in doubt after talks over a new 120,000 pound-a-week contract stalled.

New Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay has been instructed to trim the club's exorbitant wage bill by Roman owner Abramovich.

Anelka wants a 40,000 pound-a-week increase on his 80,000 pound-a-week wages, but Gourlay is operating under huge budget restrictions.

Anelka's deal runs out in 18 months but Chelsea are refusing to offer improved terms, News of the World reports.

It has forced the French star's advisor to consider his options and contemplate a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Gourlay is carrying out a number of cost-cutting measures and believes he will save one million pound this season by reducing the number of players' complimentary tickets to two.

If players want extra tickets they have to fill in a complicated form in order to prove their credentials. (ANI)
