Angel Gomes Completes Free Transfer To Marseille After Successful Stint At Lille

Angel Gomes, an England international, has joined Marseille on a free transfer. The midfielder, who came through Manchester United's academy, spent five years at Lille. During this time, he also had a loan spell at Boavista. Despite being linked with a Premier League return earlier this summer, Gomes chose to remain in Ligue 1.

Gomes reached a preliminary agreement with Marseille in June and has now officially become part of Roberto De Zerbi's squad. His decision to join Marseille comes after the club finished second in Ligue 1 last season, trailing Paris Saint-Germain by 19 points.

During his tenure at Lille, Gomes made 134 appearances across all competitions. He scored 10 goals and provided 19 assists. Among Lille players since his debut in 2021, only Jonathan David, now with Juventus, surpassed his assist tally with 24.

Gomes' move to Marseille marks a new chapter in his career as he continues to play in France's top league. His experience and skills are expected to bolster the team's midfield options under De Zerbi's management.
