Anthony Martial, formerly of Manchester United, is poised to join AEK Athens in the Greek Super League. After his contract with United ended earlier this year, Martial will arrive in Greece on Wednesday to finalise a deal reportedly worth 2.5 million per season. This contract will make him the highest-paid player at the club, surpassing Erik Lamela, who joined in July.
Martial's journey at Manchester United began in 2015 when he transferred from AS Monaco for £36 million, setting a record for the highest fee paid for a teenager at that time. He made an immediate impact by scoring on his debut against Liverpool in a 3-1 win. During his first season, he netted 17 goals across all competitions.

The French forward's most successful season came in 2019-20, where he contributed to 34 goals, scoring 23 and assisting 11. However, his form dipped in subsequent seasons, managing only 19 goals over four years. Last season under Erik ten Hag, Martial played just 629 minutes.
Martial concluded his tenure at Manchester United with a total of 90 goals in 317 appearances and secured four trophies, including the Europa League title in the 2016-17 season. At AEK Athens, he will join other former Premier League players like Roberto Pereyra and Nordin Amrabat from Watford and ex-Brentford goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.
This move to AEK Athens marks a new chapter for Martial as he seeks to revitalise his career after struggling with form and injuries at Manchester United. The Greek club is hopeful that Martial's experience and skills will significantly bolster their attacking options as they aim for success in domestic and European competitions.
