Archie Gray eased pressure on Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank by scoring a first senior goal in a 1-0 Premier League win at Crystal Palace, with the 19-year-old midfielder converting shortly before half-time to secure three points that lift Spurs to 11th and closer to the top half.
Tottenham had already seen Richarlison finish clinically, yet VAR ruled the Brazilian offside before Gray struck, and another Richarlison effort was also cancelled late on, leaving Spurs relieved but satisfied as the clean sheet and victory narrowed the gap to the top half to a single point.

Gray acknowledged that Tottenham have faced patchy form in recent weeks but felt the side are moving forward under Frank, describing the Palace result as important for confidence and for easing tension around the squad as attention now starts turning towards a 2026 opener away to Frank’s former club Brentford.
He told BBC Sport: "It's been quite a few difficult games. We've had a few good performances, a few not so good ones. It's just good to get a good result and turn things round and hopefully carry this on. Every day on the training pitch with the manager, we're learning new things and trying to get better as a unit in the way we press and the way we build up. [We're] learning new things every day, and we're just getting better as it goes."
The goal at Selhurst Park gave Gray a notable club record, as the midfielder became the youngest Tottenham player to score at the stadium since Dele Alli found the net there in January 2016, adding extra significance to a moment that arrived more than two years after Gray’s senior debut.
Gray first appeared at senior level for Leeds United in August 2023 and had reached 112 competitive matches before finally opening the scoring account, with the long wait partly explained by Gray often operating in deeper positions, including full-back and holding midfield, before this breakthrough performance with Tottenham.

"It's incredible, I don't know how to sum it up," said Gray. "It's a feeling I have been waiting for a very long time. After 112 appearances, I will give myself leeway because of the positions [I have played] but it's an incredible feeling. I think my family will be bantering me about how I have only scored now."
The narrow victory might have been more comfortable had either of Richarlison’s offside efforts stood, yet the single goal still eased the immediate pressure on Frank, with the manager’s work on pressing structure and build-up play drawing praise from Gray, who stressed that training sessions are sharpening understanding across the squad.
Gray’s milestone goal, Tottenham’s improved league position and the response to recent mixed results leave Spurs better placed entering 2026, with the trip to Brentford offering another test of progress and another chance for Frank’s squad to show that the work described by Gray is translating into steady performances.
