Argentina are up against Ecuador in the quarterfinal of the Copa America 2024 on Friday (July 5).
After finishing top of their group with three victories in three matches, Los Albicelestes will be hoping to continue their merry run. In the knockouts, they will have to deal with Ecuador, who did extremely well to qualify from their group.

Messi, who holds the record for most appearances in the Copa America, did not play in Argentina's last Group A match against Peru. Despite his absence, Lautaro Martinez scored twice, securing Argentina's third win in the tournament.
With their place in the last eight already secured, Argentina managed well without Messi. Martinez's performance ensured they finished the group stage on a high note.
As Argentina gears up for the crucial match against Ecuador, all eyes will be on Scaloni's final decision regarding Messi. Lionel Messi might miss Argentina's Copa America quarter-final against Ecuador, according to Lionel Scaloni. The 36-year-old is a crucial player for his country but the talisman may continue missing for Argentina in the tournament.
Scaloni hinted that Messi, now 37 years old, might not be fit for Thursday's knockout game against Ecuador in Houston. This uncertainty leaves fans and teammates anxious about his availability.
"We will wait a few hours and make a decision. Another day is always better. We'll decide on the basis of the response we get today. We'll try to get him to play and if he doesn't, we'll try to find the best thing for the team," Lionel Scaloni, the Argentina head coach said.
"I'm going to talk to him today, I think it's fair that he takes his time and trains as much as he can," Scaloni added.
