Arsenal 2025-26 Schedule Labeled Obscene By Declan Rice Amid Gruelling Campaign
Declan Rice accepts the demands of Arsenal’s 2025-26 calendar, even while calling the workload extreme. The midfielder is ready to keep playing through the strain if the heavy schedule leads to more trophies, for club and for England, despite concerns over fatigue and minor injury problems during a packed campaign.
Rice was substituted as a precaution in England’s 4-2 win over Croatia at the World Cup last Wednesday after feeling hamstring discomfort. Medical checks brought reassurance, and Rice is expected to feature in England’s next group fixtures against Ghana and Panama, as the national team aims to manage minutes while staying competitive.

Across all competitions since the end of last year’s Club World Cup, Arsenal have played 63 matches. That figure is the highest among clubs in Europe’s top five leagues, with Atletico Madrid next on 61 games. Rice has appeared in 55 of those fixtures, starting 49, underlining the central role within Mikel Arteta’s system.
Only goalkeeper David Raya has spent more time on the pitch for Arsenal in that span. Raya has logged 4,620 minutes, while Rice has accumulated 4,456 minutes. The numbers highlight the strain on Rice’s body during Arsenal’s title run and deep cup campaigns, with little margin for rest throughout the season.
{TABLE_1}Arsenal’s efforts delivered a long-awaited reward in the Premier League. Arteta’s side ended a 22-year wait for the top-flight trophy, with Rice operating as a key figure in midfield. The league success arrived alongside a second Champions League final appearance, reflecting Arsenal’s consistency across domestic and European competitions during the year.
Arsenal’s European journey ended in disappointment in Budapest. The Champions League final finished 1-1 before a penalty shoot-out defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes both missed from the spot, leaving Arsenal short of a first European Cup despite matching PSG for long spells in the showpiece.
Domestic knockout competitions added more mileage to Arsenal’s calendar. The club reached the EFL Cup final, where Manchester City claimed the trophy. In the FA Cup, Arsenal were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Southampton, who produced a surprise result. These extended runs made the schedule even heavier around league and European duties.
Rice addressed the situation while speaking to ITV Sport, making clear views on the workload. "It's an obscene amount of games, the schedule was crazy, but what can we do about it? You can't sit and complain," Rice told ITV Sport. "We have to just get on with it for the moments like I had, winning that Premier League."
Rice linked the demanding calendar to the emotional payoff of success, and to goals with England. "You'd play as many games as possible to have that feeling again, knowing that there's a World Cup at the end of it as well." "You'd put your body on the line to always be able to play." "It's a lot of games, but we'll get our break at the end."
After Rice finishes England duty and attempts to help end 60 years of hurt at the World Cup, attention will return to domestic matters. Arsenal are scheduled to start their Premier League title defence against Coventry City on 21 August, with Rice again expected to carry a major share of the workload in midfield.
