Andrea Berta has been appointed as Arsenal's new sporting director, succeeding Edu. Edu stepped down in November to join the organisation of Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. Berta, known for his strategic acumen, spent nearly 12 years at Atletico Madrid. There, he gained recognition for acquiring talent despite limited resources and generating significant profits.
Berta has been preparing for his new role by taking English lessons in London. His career includes previous positions at Carpenedolo, Parma, and Genoa in Italy. Arsenal announced his appointment on their official Twitter account:

In a statement on Arsenal's website, Berta expressed his enthusiasm: "I am thrilled to be joining Arsenal in what is a hugely exciting period for the club. I have watched with great interest the way Arsenal has evolved in recent years and I have admired the hard work that has gone into re-establishing the club as a major force in European football with a passionate following around the world."
He further added, "The club has great values and a rich history, and I am looking forward to playing my part in shaping a successful future with a great team. I cannot wait to get started in my new role and I am really looking forward to experiencing my first game at Emirates Stadium together with our supporters."
Currently, Arsenal sits second in the Premier League standings, trailing leaders Liverpool by 12 points. After the international break, they will resume their campaign with a home match against Fulham at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
Berta's appointment marks a significant change for Arsenal as they aim to strengthen their position both domestically and in Europe. His experience and track record suggest he could be pivotal in achieving these goals.
