Arsenal's Improved Goal-Scoring Versatility Pleases Mikel Arteta Amid Set-Piece Reliance

Mikel Arteta commends Arsenal for their shift towards open play goals, reducing reliance on set-pieces. The team has scored significantly more from open play this season, highlighting their attacking versatility.

Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, is pleased with the team's ability to diversify their scoring methods. Previously criticised for relying heavily on set-pieces, Arsenal have now scored 16 Premier League goals from open play this season, excluding penalties. This shift in strategy has seen them create 16.2 expected goals (xG) from open play compared to 8.4 xG from set-pieces.

Arteta acknowledges the importance of being versatile in their approach to scoring. He stated, "The fact we have the resources to score from various positions, from different players in different manners, that's a great thing." As Arsenal aim for their first league title since 2004, Arteta emphasises the need for productivity in all situations.

Arteta Praises Arsenal's Goal-Scoring Versatility

The Gunners recently ended an 18-match unbeaten streak with a narrow 2-1 loss to Aston Villa due to Emiliano Buendia's late goal. However, they bounced back by defeating Club Brugge 3-0 in the Champions League. Despite the setback, Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League table, holding a two-point lead over Manchester City.

In addition to their domestic success, Arsenal also lead their Champions League group after six matches. Arteta remains focused on maintaining this strong position across all competitions and hopes for recognition at the end of the season.

When questioned about whether his players receive enough credit for their performances, Arteta responded: "That's not for me to judge. We are in a very strong position in the three competitions we are involved with so far." He believes that true recognition will come at the season's end when achievements can be fully assessed.

Arteta stresses that daily objectives must be met to achieve long-term goals. He remains optimistic about Arsenal's current standing and is determined to maintain momentum as they pursue success in multiple competitions.

The evolution of Arsenal's playing style reflects Arteta's strategic adjustments and highlights the team's adaptability. By reducing reliance on set-pieces and enhancing open-play effectiveness, Arsenal have demonstrated growth and resilience under Arteta's leadership.
