Arsenal can catch Manchester City in title race: Xhaka

Xhaka claims that anything is possible in football and it’s possible the leaders could endure a mid-season struggle which may open the title race again.

Granit Xhaka

London, November 22: Granit Xhaka hopes that league leaders Manchester City drop points in the long run, to give Arsenal and others clubs a chance to fight for the title despite their spectacular start to the Premier League season.

Arsenal's 2-0 home win over fourth-placed Tottenham last week brought them back in the contention in the top four race as the Gunners are now only four points behind second placed Manchester United and a point adrift of Spurs.

However, the Gunners are still 12 points behind Pep Guardiola's side, who have just dropped points twice in 12 matches. But the former Gladbach man claims that anything is possible in football and it’s possible the leaders could endure a mid-season struggle which may open the title race again.

“I think in football everything is possible,” Xhaka told Sky Sports.

“Manchester City, at the moment, are on a very good run, they're doing very well and others have dropped points - which they haven't done - but it's conceivable that they could drop points as well.”

Xhaka added: “They might not continue as they have been.

“But our aim is just to focus on ourselves. We know we need to work and we're convinced that we can compete at the top.

“Everything's possible, I'm a person who thinks realistically but has dreams and fantasies as well. In football, everything is always possible.”

Arsenal play FC Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday where they will look to book the top spot in the group before another away trip to seventh-placed Burnley on Sunday in Premier League.
