Arsenal have announced the departure of first-team goalkeeper Alex Runarsson on Thursday (February 1).
The Iceland international has left the club with mutual consent after he was recalled from his loan move to Cardiff City in the summer.

"Alex Runarsson has returned from his loan spell at Cardiff City and will now leave the club by mutual agreement," an Arsenal statement wrote on Thursday.
The 28-year-old custodian played eight matches in the first half of this season with Cardiff City, having previously spent significant time on loan at Turkish club Alanyaspor, Belgium's OH Leuven, and other teams.
He joined the Gunners in 2020 but things never went smoothly for him at the club. Runarsson made 6 appearances for the North London club, before being loaned out to OH Leuven.
Runarsson played in one league match but some horrendous mistakes in a League Cup match led to his demise from the Gunners at that time. His other four appearances came in the Europa League.
With the likes of David Raya, Aaron Ramsdale and Karl Hein in the senior Arsenal team, Runarsson would have found no game time at all and has now decided to seek pastures new away from North London.
