Arsenal And Manchester United Share Points In Premier League Title Race After 1-1 Draw

In a tense match, Arsenal drew 1-1 with Manchester United. Declan Rice equalised after Bruno Fernandes' opener, but Arsenal remains far behind Liverpool in the title race.

Arsenal's hopes of catching up in the Premier League title race were dashed after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United. Despite Declan Rice equalising Bruno Fernandes' free-kick, Arsenal couldn't secure a win. Mikel Arteta's team needed a victory to close the gap on Liverpool, who had moved 16 points ahead after defeating Southampton 3-1.

Arsenal struggled to create opportunities in the first half and fell behind just before half-time. Fernandes scored from 25 yards with United's first shot on target, raising questions about David Raya's positioning. However, Raya redeemed himself in the second half by making crucial saves against Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee.

Arsenal Draw with Manchester United in Premier League

As United retreated defensively, Arsenal found their equaliser in the 74th minute. Rice scored off the post after receiving a pass from Jurrien Timber. Despite this breakthrough, Arsenal couldn't capitalise further and almost lost in stoppage time when Fernandes nearly scored again. Raya made an impressive save to keep the scores level.

The draw leaves United in 14th place with 34 points, while Arsenal remain frustrated at being 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Arne Slot's Liverpool need only 16 more points to secure the title, potentially doing so before facing Arsenal again.

Mikel Arteta's Milestone Match

Mikel Arteta marked his 200th Premier League game as manager against Manchester United, the first team he defeated as Arsenal boss back in January 2020. Despite Rice's goal cancelling out United's lead, Arteta had little reason to celebrate his milestone match.

His record includes a win rate of 59%, surpassing Arsene Wenger’s 55%, but still lags behind Pep Guardiola’s impressive 73%. This season, Arsenal have failed to win three games against teams starting the day ranked 15th or lower—a stark contrast to last season when they won all matches against teams between those positions.

If Arsenal cannot overcome Liverpool’s significant lead at the top of the table, these missed opportunities may haunt them as they reflect on their campaign.
