Arsenal Remains Positive Ahead Of Liverpool Match Despite Injury Concerns

Mikel Arteta emphasises Arsenal's determination to face Liverpool despite injuries to key players. He highlights the squad's depth and positive mindset as they prepare for a crucial Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta remains optimistic as Arsenal prepare to face Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, despite facing squad challenges. Key players like Bukayo Saka, Jurrien Timber, and Riccardo Calafiori are doubtful due to injuries from their recent Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk. Additionally, Martin Odegaard is unavailable, and William Saliba is suspended after being sent off in Arsenal's 2-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend.

Arsenal's performance without Saliba has been concerning. Since his debut in 2022, the team has won 74% of matches with him but only 45.5% without him. Despite this, Arsenal have a positive home record against Liverpool, winning their last two Premier League encounters at the Emirates. Arteta remains confident about the upcoming match against the Reds.

Arsenal Focused Ahead of Liverpool Clash

"This is the game," Arteta stated. "We obviously don't want to be in this situation, but we are lucky to have the squad we have and the attitude to react to difficult situations." He emphasised that they do not feel sorry for themselves and are aware of their capabilities. The team is determined to face challenges head-on.

Arteta acknowledged the need for defensive adjustments due to Saliba's absence. "We have different options [in defence]. That partnership [between William Saliba and Gabriel] has been very stable but we have to find a solution," he said. The team has adapted well with versatile players stepping up when needed.

Liverpool currently lead the league table under Arne Slot's management, having lost just one of their 12 matches so far. Arsenal trail by four points but could close the gap if Manchester City falter against Southampton. Arteta praised Slot's impact at Liverpool but dismissed suggestions that this match is his toughest challenge as Arsenal manager.

"Arne Slot's start has been very good," Arteta noted. "They are in a really great moment and run." He acknowledged Liverpool's consistent high-level competition over nine years but insisted that this isn't one of Arsenal's most challenging moments.

The atmosphere at the Emirates is expected to be electric as both teams look forward to this significant clash. Arteta stressed the importance of maintaining belief and energy in such big matches, highlighting that mental adaptation is crucial given their current injury woes.

Despite these setbacks, Arteta remains focused on preparation without dwelling on potential losses. "I never think about losing," he asserted. "It is just very bad luck [with the injuries]. They are difficult issues and traumatic injuries." He emphasised that international injuries are hard to control but stressed the importance of reacting positively and maintaining confidence in their abilities.
