Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal's new acquisition, suggested he declined offers from other clubs before finalising his significant transfer to the Gunners. Earlier this month, Gyokeres signed a long-term contract with Arsenal, reportedly for five years. The deal was worth 63.5 million pounds (72.6 million euros) including add-ons, transferring him from Sporting CP.
Gyokeres made a remarkable impact in the Primeira Liga by scoring 68 goals over two seasons. This achievement marked him as the top scorer across Europe's top 10 leagues since his move from Coventry City in 2023. His impressive performance attracted interest from several clubs, notably Juventus and Manchester United.

The Swedish striker ultimately chose Arsenal under Mikel Arteta's management. He is set to debut against Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong during their pre-season tour on Thursday. In an interview during Arsenal's pre-season trip to Asia, Gyokeres discussed his career decisions and aspirations.
"Yes, I think you can always have a decision about your future," Gyokeres stated. "Of course, there were other clubs as well, but I didn't feel it was a difficult choice for me this time." He acknowledged that returning to England wasn't always on his mind but recognised the Premier League's allure as the world's best league.
Arsenal hopes Gyokeres will become a key player for them after lacking a double-digit goal scorer in the Premier League last season—a first for the club. During Sporting's 2024-25 campaign, Gyokeres netted 39 goals in just 33 matches, helping them secure their 21st top-flight title.
The Sweden international also led Europe’s top 10 leagues with 27 non-penalty goals, surpassing Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski who each scored 24. When asked about what Arsenal lacked after finishing second in the Premier League three consecutive times, Gyokeres emphasised teamwork.
"I think you need everyone on the pitch, to be honest," he said. "You need 11 on the pitch and people on the bench as well that can make an impact." He stressed that having a united team playing together increases their chances of success significantly.
Gyokeres' addition aims to address Arsenal's recent struggles in front of goal and provide the attacking prowess needed to compete at the highest level. His proven track record in Portugal suggests he could be instrumental in helping Arsenal achieve their ambitions this season.
