Arsenal have strengthened their defence for the upcoming 2025-26 season by acquiring Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. The 21-year-old defender joins the Gunners for a reported fee of £13 million (€15 million) and has signed a five-year contract, with an option to extend for another year. This signing marks Arsenal's fifth addition this summer, following Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, and Noni Madueke.
Mosquera's versatility is a key asset for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. He can play both as a right-back and in central defence, addressing the gap left by Takehiro Tomiyasu's departure. Last season in La Liga, Mosquera completed more passes (1,822) than any other Valencia player. He also ranked third in aerial duels won (32), trailing only Jose Gaya (40) and Cesar Tarrega (37) in tackles won with 36.

In addition to Mosquera, Arsenal are reportedly close to finalising a deal for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish forward is expected to join the Premier League club for £63.5 million (€72.9 million). These signings reflect Arsenal's ambition to end their 22-year wait for a Premier League title next season.
Mosquera made his debut for Valencia in January 2022 and has since accumulated 90 appearances across all competitions. Earlier this month, he hinted at an impending transfer without naming his new club. Now confirmed at Arsenal, Mosquera embarks on a new chapter that Arteta believes will enhance the squad's quality.
Arteta expressed his excitement about Mosquera joining the team: "We're delighted to welcome Cristhian to Arsenal. As a 21-year-old defender, Cristhian has already performed consistently well with significant experience in La Liga." Arteta praised Mosquera as an intelligent player with good pace who can play centrally and on both sides.
Arteta further commented on Mosquera's potential: "He is a young player with exciting talent and enormous potential, who will fit well into our squad as we continue to prepare for next season." The manager emphasised that Mosquera adds quality to the team and expressed eagerness to integrate him into the squad.
The signing of Mosquera signifies Arsenal's commitment to building a competitive team capable of challenging for top honours. With these strategic acquisitions, the club aims to bolster its chances of achieving success in domestic and European competitions in the coming seasons.
