Mikel Merino Joins Arsenal From Real Sociedad On Four-Year Deal

Arsenal have confirmed the acquisition of Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad on a four-year contract. The deal is valued at up to £31.6 million, with an option to extend for an additional year. Merino returns to the Premier League after joining La Real from Newcastle United in 2018.

During his time with Real Sociedad, Merino made 242 appearances across all competitions, netting 27 goals and providing 30 assists. Last season, he led the top five European leagues in duels won with 326 and had the highest number of recoveries among LaLiga outfield players, totalling 197.

"Mikel is a player who will bring us huge quality with his experience and versatility," said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. "He has played at the top of the game at both club and international level for a number of seasons now."
