London, Aug 26: Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has admitted that he wants to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere this summer.

The England international, who is in his final year of his contract with Arsenal, is struggling to make it into Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans at the Emirates this season and reports suggest that the manager is willing to listen to offers for the English international.

“If he gets back to his best and wants to stay, we have to sit down later in the season,” said Wenger, “I don’t rule that out.

“I’m open to a loan move. We have honest conversations. I’m open to what is the best for him. He is at the stage of his career where he needs to play and I can’t guarantee him today that.”

And, while discussing the potential transfer of West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass, Bruce said he would love to bring the 25-year-old to Villa Park as the Villans make a serious push for promotion.

Bruce told talkSPORT: “Snoddy is somebody I’ve known for a long time – I bought him for Hull – so that’s something we’re looking into and exploring.

“The Jack Wilshere one – hey, who wouldn’t want Jack Wilshere?

“But I don’t know whether we’re capable of landing him and let’s not forget he’s only 25.

“People have said that I’ve got millions and millions to spend, where it’s been the complete opposite.

“With the financial fair play, unfortunately, we haven’t got millions and millions to spend so I’ve got to be a little bit prudent, see what we can do and try and balance the books.”

Newcastle United are also said to be interested in the signature of the England international as Rafael Benitez looks for quality in order to thrive in the Premier League with the Magpies. They will certainly have an edge over Aston Villa in order to land Wilshere thanks to Premier League football.
