Mikel Arteta has expressed Arsenal's intention to acquire a new striker, acknowledging the challenges involved in securing such a player before the next transfer window. Arsenal's hopes for a trophy in the 2024-25 season were dashed after their Champions League semi-final exit against Paris Saint-Germain. This marked their fifth consecutive season without silverware.
Following the 3-1 aggregate loss, criticism arose over Arsenal's failure to sign a natural striker during the January transfer window. The team has been without Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus due to injuries, leading Arteta to use Mikel Merino as a false nine. Arteta emphasised his desire to strengthen this area of the squad, but circumstances prevented action in January.

Arteta reiterated his stance on improving the team, stating, "Do I have to make it more clear? In January, it was clear or not?" He continued, "I want the best team, the best player. If we have three goalscorers over 25, bring them in." Arteta believes scoring over 90 goals significantly increases Premier League title chances if paired with strong defensive records.
Reports suggest Arsenal are nearing an agreement with Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi for a defensive midfield role when the transfer window opens. Additionally, they have reportedly made an initial offer for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres, who has scored 52 goals across all competitions this season.
RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak from Newcastle United are also on Arsenal's radar for potential signings in the upcoming transfer window. When questioned about whether acquiring a striker is challenging, Arteta responded: "Probably, because there are not that many that put those numbers."
Arteta highlighted that few players achieve high goal tallies in the Premier League. He stressed improving current players while appreciating their contributions. "Especially after losing," he noted, "it's too easy to just go and look elsewhere and not use the moment to judge players."
Arteta remains confident in his squad despite recent setbacks. He stated he had no doubts about his players' performances over the past 11 months. As Arsenal prepares for future challenges, they aim to bolster their squad strategically while nurturing existing talent.
