Arsenal restored a five-point cushion at the top of the Premier League with a 4-1 win over Tottenham, delivering Igor Tudor a strong debut. The result answered Manchester City’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, which had briefly cut the gap, and left Spurs sitting only four points above the relegation places.
The game swung early and often, yet Arsenal repeatedly regained control. Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres both scored twice, while Tottenham’s threat came mainly through Randal Kolo Muani. David Raya and Guglielmo Vicario were busy in goal, but Arsenal’s greater accuracy and aggression decided a fierce North London derby.

Arsenal started confidently in a loud Emirates Stadium, settling quickly despite heavy pressure following Manchester City’s earlier win. The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute. Bukayo Saka delivered a cross, Eberechi Eze cushioned the ball into the air, then finished with an acrobatic effort, continuing a personal scoring run against Tottenham.
The lead vanished almost immediately after the restart. Within around 30 seconds, Declan Rice miscontrolled possession near the edge of Arsenal’s box. Randal Kolo Muani seized on the mistake and drove a low shot past David Raya, briefly pulling Tottenham level and silencing the home support.
Arsenal responded again at the start of the second half. In the 47th minute, Viktor Gyokeres collected the ball outside the area and unleashed a fierce strike. The shot flew beyond Guglielmo Vicario, restoring Arsenal’s advantage and re-establishing the pattern of sustained pressure on Tottenham’s back line.
Tottenham thought Kolo Muani had equalised once more, but the goal did not stand. The forward was penalised for a push in Gabriel Maghaeles’ back before finishing. Soon after, Arsenal tightened their grip. In the 61st minute, Eze intercepted a loose defensive header from Radu Dragusin, drove forward, and swept in the third goal.
Eze’s influence in this fixture continued a striking trend. Having scored a hat-trick in Arsenal’s 4-1 away win in the reverse league meeting, Eze moved to five Premier League goals against Tottenham this season. Only Robert Pires and Emmanuel Adebayor have scored more for Arsenal in this particular league rivalry.
The England international is only the second player to score four or more league goals in North London derbies within one season. Ted Drake first achieved that with Arsenal in 1934-35, also with five goals. Eze is also the first Arsenal player since Emmanuel Adebayor in 2007-08 to reach at least five league goals against one opponent in a single campaign.
Underlying statistics reflected Arsenal’s dominance throughout the match. Arsenal attempted 20 shots compared with Tottenham’s five and led the expected goals measure by 1.93 to 0.76. Across both league meetings this season, Spurs mustered only nine attempts, with just one opponent ever restricting them to fewer efforts in a Premier League campaign.

The previous occasion came against Manchester City in 2019-20, when Tottenham recorded six total shots over both games. Spurs also struggled here to create clear chances. David Raya was tested late when Richarlison broke through, yet the goalkeeper recovered well to block. Shortly afterwards, Gyokeres powered past Archie Gray and finished across Vicario for Arsenal’s fourth in stoppage time.
Arsenal have now played one match more than Manchester City but maintain breathing space at the top of the Premier League. Tottenham leave the derby facing different concerns, with the heavy defeat compounding poor attacking numbers and leaving the team only four points above the relegation zone as the season continues.
