Mikel Arteta has declared Arsenal's title ambitions are alive after their commanding 5-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Gabriel Jesus netted twice, either side of Ismaila Sarr's equaliser, with further goals from Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Declan Rice securing the victory. This triumph marked Arsenal's second win over Palace in a week, having also eliminated them from the EFL Cup.
Arteta emphasised the team's determination to compete for the title despite being three points behind Liverpool, who have played two fewer matches. "We certainly want it [the title] but we have to show it for 10 months," Arteta told Sky Sports. "The demands are incredible... We are trying our best." Arsenal's relentless schedule involves playing every three days for several weeks.

Jesus' second goal was significant as it marked Arsenal's 50th Premier League goal from a corner since Nicolas Jover became their set-piece coach in 2021. This achievement is unmatched by any other club during his tenure. Additionally, this was the sixth away game in 2024 where Arsenal scored five or more goals, setting a record for an English top-flight team in a single calendar year.
Despite the impressive win, there was concern over Bukayo Saka's early exit due to injury. Arteta commented on Saka's situation, stating it was too soon to determine the severity of his issue. "He felt something," Arteta explained to Match of the Day. "It is too early to assess him. It was a precaution with him right now."
Oliver Glasner expressed disappointment as his team suffered another defeat against Arsenal. The Eagles conceded five or more goals at home in a Premier League match for only the third time, previously losing heavily to Liverpool in 1994 and 2020. Despite having more shots than Arsenal and matching their shots on target, Palace struggled with efficiency.
"When you concede five it is unlikely you get a point!" Glasner remarked to Sky Sports. He noted that at 2-1 down, they had significant chances before Arsenal extended their lead. "We lost the belief to come back again," he added, highlighting how gifting goals made recovery difficult.
Glasner acknowledged positives from the first hour of play, praising his team's pressure and ball movement. However, he stressed the importance of defending against top teams effectively. "We have to learn that when you give the top teams a crumb, they take the whole cake!" he concluded.
This victory propelled Arsenal to third place in the league standings as they continue their pursuit of Liverpool at the top. The Gunners remain focused on maintaining their form throughout the demanding season ahead.
